Hello again…

   Posted by: Rick Runowski   in Family, Kristina, Rick

Couldn’t get any sleep tonight, so I figured I would check in on the blog. I found that there are several people who have registered, that are of a dubious nature. So I have limited who can register. If I booted you, and you think this was a mistake on my part, shoot me an email, or try to re-register. I don’t know everyones email by heart, sorry. One of the things I’m requiring at present is an OpenID account if you want to auto-register. Otherwise, I’ll be happy to help you out.

More updates below the break! Read the rest of this entry »

Meeting with the QueenWe went to the Muskogee Ren Faire last weekend. We let Kris pick two friends to bring with her for the Birthday. They all seemed to have a lot of fun. We also went to Queen’s tea this time.

Is May the busiest month of the year?

   Posted by: srrun   in Family, Kristina, School

I’m amazed every year that when we come to the end of the school year and things should be winding down, instead it seems like everything is winding up. I’ve been working on making finally arrangements for summer camps for Kristina, which has been a challenge. School is keeping us pretty busy. She has two field trips this month: the zoo and bowling. There’s fine arts night coming up and we’re finishing up girl scout stuff. Plus Kris is getting ready for her dance recital. And we’re working on getting her registered at her new school. Add to that working on the house, and I think it’s safe to say we’re swamped.

Introducing: Melody Mocha

   Posted by: srrun   in Family, Kristina

Kris and MelodyRick brought home a new puppy on Friday. Kristina loves her and the puppy has definitely attached to Kristina. She whines anytime Kris leaves the room. It’s also kind of funny when she barks at her reflection in the glass door.

Homeschool update

<Digimax D53>

Well, once again homeschooling is going by the wayside. We are now moving full swing into trying to get the house finished up, so there goes all our free time. We did manage to set off our volcano twice. Once inside the regular way and once outside with poprocks. Unfortunately we didn’t get the exploding/poping I hoped for. I think we’re just going to keep stocked on new books from the library for Kris to read. She’s currently on the level 3 of the step into reading set. I was plesently surprised that she was actually interested and excited when telling me about Lewis and Clark and Benjamin Franklin. The Level 3 set has non-fiction stories about figures in American History and I feared they’d be boring to her, but instead I was surprised to hear her telling me, “Mom, it a true story!” I got a comment from one of the teachers at her school that she is reading very well. Apparently they get into small groups and read plays to other teachers.

She is currently on a math kick. Everytime I turn around she is working in the 1st grade math book that grandpa got her for Christmas. She was learning this morning that she had to pay attention to if she was supposed to be adding or subtracting because they were including both kinds on the page and she was working on learning tens and ones. I knew that her aftercare teacher would let her work on it in aftercare, but was presently surprised that when she asked her Kindergarten teacher if she could work on it while wating for others that she was told yes. Like they say, whatever is of interest to the child at the time is what you really need to roll with and let them explore, so for now this is the approach we will go with.
